1.2 Are Tomato Flash cards compatible with my camera. MP3 player. mobile. PDA or other digital devices?
Ans:Our entire cards meet the specifications and will work with any device which also meeting specifications. Manufactures of devices that use the memory can specify capacity limitations and will out of the specifications.

1.3 What is with card formatting? Do I really need to do it?
Ans:About formatting a card that insures it can be work fine with your camera smoothly. Such as computers, memory cards have files system, folders, etc. When you get the memory card and format it under the camera, it will set up the card’s way and the camera needs it to be in order to function correctly. Under the most condition, you just insert the memory card then it will be work smoothly. Most cameras will automatically put all the necessary "stuff” on the memory card, regardless of whether you’ve formatted it or not. Formatting a card is a very quick procedure, so it has suggested to do it at first time when you insert the card to your camera.

1.4 The capacity of the memory card show unstable, and can not read the data.
Ans:Please use the card reader or the adapter to read the card on PC and check the disk as following step, select the「right click」.「Content」.「tool」,execute「check mistake」and「The disk reorganizes」to check the card。And also use you camera or digital device to reformat the card. If the problem can not be solved, please contact the original distributor.

1.5 My devices can not detect the card after I format the card in my PC.
Ans:Most of digital cameras and PDAs recognize FAT16 memory cards only. When you format your card with a card reader please select "FAT" format. Meanwhile, you can also format your card with your digital camera or PDA first.

1.6 My device cannot recognize the full card size?
Ans:(1).Using a USB card reader to format the flash card into FAT16/FAT.
(2).Then to read the card size via the card reader.
(3).If you can read the full size using your reader right off, but still cannot read the full size on your device, it is possible that your device does not support such a large card size. We will suggest you have to contact the device’s manufacturer.

1.7 Does SD card slot the same with MMC card slot?
Ans:Yes, the dimension of SD card is similar to MMC card. Therefore, the slot of SD card is also the same as the MMC one.

1.9 Can I format the card under Windows OS?
Ans:It is suggested to format the card by the device you use with it (PDA , digital camera…).If you want to format it under windows, please format it in FAT instead of FAT32 or NTFS. FAT is compatible with most of other operating systems or devices.

1.10 After editing the photos in the card under Window OS, the digital camera can no longer read the photos.
Ans:If you changed file name or format of the images with flash card inside a card reader under windows OS, the image may not be readable by the camera or software. If you want to edit the photos, please copy them to your system from the card first.

1.11 I formatted the card under PC and it is no longer recognized by my digital camera.
Ans:Most digital cameras only support FAT (FAT16). Please check the file system you used to format your card, if it is FAT32, NTFS or something else, the Flash card will be unrecognizable by the digital camera. Please reformat it into to FAT.

1.12 The card shows less capacity under Windows than it should be.
Ans:The disk shows less capacity under windows OS. It"s because for hardware manufacturer 1k=1000bytes.But for Microsoft 1k=1024bytes.That"s why a memory card 512MB shows only 499MB under Windows OS. You may check your hard disk and find that it shows less capacity under windows than it should be.

1.13 What does "X" speed rating means?
Ans:The "X" speed rating gives users a performance indicator on how fast the card can transfer images. Flash cards with higher speed rating X-speed rating are designed to perform faster. The X-speed rating can also be translated into another common measurement of performance – Mega Bytes (MB) per second of read speed. To determine the actual MB per second, you must know the value of "X" and do the math using the multiplier number and the value of X as claimed by the product.
For example: Value of X = 150 Kilo Bytes * per second, noted as 150 KB/sec.

150X = 150(multiplier) x 150KB/sec or 22.5 MB/sec,
1 KB = 1,000 Bytes;
1 MB = 1 million Bytes

Note: The speed may vary due to host and device configuration.

1.14 I receive "memory shortage” message when copy files to the flash memory card, but there still lots capacity left in the card.
Ans:This is the issue of the FAT file system. If you want to copy more then 255 files at a time, please create another folder. Then you could copy large amount files to the folder without problem.

1.15 What"s different FAT16 with FAT32?
Ans:FAT stands for File Allocation Table, and it is the method file systems use to link addressable clusters of data to particular files. FAT16 is also known as FAT. A 16 bit binary number is used to hold cluster information which gives 65,526 clusters. A cluster is the smallest portion of space where data is stored. This system can be used on drives up to 2GB. FAT32 was created to accommodate storage capacities up to 2048GB.

1.16 I inserted my 2GB flash card into my camera, and when I check it, it only shows as 1GB. Why?
Ans:This means that your camera does not properly support 2GB flash card. In this case, do not reformat the flash card with this incompliant camera – it is a limitation by digital camera’s internal controller, which will only support up to 1GB flash card.

1.17 Why were my flash cards not recognized by the digital devices?
Ans:Please make sure the digital device can support the flash card capacity and its file system. If it is, please try to format the flash card with your digital device. For instruction on how to format the card by digital device, refer to the camera user’s manual.

Note:The flash card exceed 2GB that was formatted in FAT32 comes out, most devices don"t support FAT32 with their card slot.

1.18 Why do some card readers not recognize my 2GB flash cards?
Ans:Most card readers only support a maximum memory capacity of 1GB flash card. Therefore, using a flash card that is over 1GB will cause problems and mean that the card cannot be detected.

1.19 I plug the Micro SD card with adaptor into my computer, but it will not show up as a removable drive on my computer. Why is this?
Ans:Please verify the below points.
(1).Insert the Micro SD card to other digital device to verify card function.

1.20 What"s SDHC card?
Ans:SDHC (SD High Capacity) are the new SD cards larger than 2GB that adhere to the SD 2.00 specification - a design that is required for cards and hosts to support 4GB to 32GB capacities. The specification was developed by the SD Association, which also defined three speed classes for speed and performance capabilities.

1.21 What is the Class Speed Rating in SDHC cards?
Ans:The SD Association defines 3 speed classes to help users identify the speed and performance of SDHC cards. The class speed rating specifies a minimum sustained write speed.
Class 2: 2 MB/s
Class 4: 4 MB/s
Class 6: 6 MB/s

Note:The speed may vary due to host and device configuration.

1.22 Can my digital device use higher speed card?
Ans:Not all cameras can support flash cards with higher speed, so you might find out what transfer speeds your camera was able to support at the first. If using unsuitable card, the card might be damage or affect device performance.

1.23 My card reader cannot recognize SDHC card or the Operating System prompts want to format the card when attached it.
Ans:Currently some card reader is incompatible with SDHC card. Please refer the manual for card socket supported information before used the card. If the card was formatted by unsupported device, the card might be damaged.

Industrial CF cards: between -40°C to 85°C
Commercial CF cards: between -25°C to 85°C
(2).Different flash chip types:
Industrial CF cards: Use SLC (Single Level Cell)
Commercial CF cards: Generally use MLC except for high-end models (Multi Level Cell)

1.32 What does the speed of the CF card mean?
Ans:All Tomato Commercial CF card data transfer statistic testing are fully complying with the "Testmetrix” standard, which is flash alliance for testing speed of memory card.
For example : 1X=150KBytes/sec, So, CF133X=150KBytes/sec X 133=20MBytes/sec.

All data transfer statistics provided is for your reference only. The actual speed of data transfer may vary because of differences in system specifications, settings and performance.

1.33 What is the most important factor for you when buying memory?
Ans:(1).How much does the memory cost?
(2).How fast is the memory?
(3).Can it be used as a boot disk?
(4).If it be used as a boot disk, please make sure what kind of interface (IDE or PCMCIA interface) you use.

1.34 What is the main difference between CF 3.0 and CF 4.1?
Ans:CF 3.0 supports Multi-word DMA and CF4.1 supports Ultra DMA.

1.35 What is the difference between a Compact Flash? (CF) Type I and CF Type II Flash Memory card?
Ans:The only difference between a CF Type I and CF Type II memory card is the card’s thickness. A CF Type I card is 3.3mm thick, while a CF Type II card is 5mm thick. CF Type I cards will work in a CF Type I, or CF Type II card slot, but CF Type II cards will only fit in a CF Type II slot.

1.36 What is ECC?
Ans:ECC (Error correcting Code) allows data that is being read or transmitting to be checked for errors and, when necessary, to be corrected immediately.

1.37 What is DMA mode and PIO mode? What is different between them?
Ans:PIO stands for Programmed Input/Output, which is a protocol for data transfer. Since it involves the CPU, the use of PIO mode for data transfer can slow a computer down considerably. On the contrary, DMA (Direct Memory Access) does not involve the CPU. Rather, the involved components move data directly to and from RAM, bypassing the CPU altogether. Therefore, DMA has better performance in data transfer than PIO.
Moreover, DMA can also be divided in two types, which are Multi-word DMA and Ultra DMA. The main difference between these two models is that Ultra DMA can serve faster data transfer speeds than Multi-word.
Note:Ultra DMA is not supported by all types of computers. If you are not sure whether your system support UDMA, please don’t hesitate to contact your device retailers or technical support department.

1.38 If I want to use CF cards that support DMA function on the motherboard, what things should I check?
Ans:If you want to install CF cards that support DMA function, please confirm that your onboard CF socket or CF-to-IDE adapter supports DMA function. You can examine if the following signal pins are connected to determine. All three sets of pins connected indicate the socket (adapter) supports DMA function.
(1).Pin 21(DMARQ) of IDE <--> Pin43 (DMARQ) of CF connector.
(2).Pin 27(IORDY) of IDE <--> Pin42 (DSTROBE/DMARDY/IORDY) of CF.
(3).Pin 29(DMACK) of IDE <--> Pin44 (DMACK) of CF.

When you plug it into a non-Hi-Speed USB port, Windows will show this alert message. You can still continue to use the disk but it will run at a reduced speed.

2.12 After I formatted the USB drive under Windows OS, my Mac PC doesn’t recognize it anymore.
Ans:Please check the file system you choose to format the disk. Mac OS is fully compatible with FAT system files but not FAT32 or NTFS. Please reformat it as FAT files under Windows OS. If you format the disk as a HDD or USB ZIP by the utility program under Windows OS, it won"t be recognized by Mac OS, either. Please reformat it as a FDD by the utility program under Windows OS

Ans:This is an known FAT system file issue. Every Traveling disk is formatted in FAT file system. If you want to copy more then 255 files at a time, please create another folder. Or you may reformat the disk into FAT 32 system files, but the FAT system files have better compatibility with most operating system.

2.14 The USB drive shows less capacity under Windows then it should be.
Ans:The disk shows less capacity under windows OS. It"s because for hardware manufacturer 1k=1000bytes.But for Microsoft 1k=1024bytes.That"s why a USB drive 512MB shows from 477~499MB under Windows OS. You may check your hard disk and find it shows less capacity under windows than it should be.

2.15 Does the USB drive work under WIN 95/NT/CE/Mac OS 8.6?
Ans:This device doesn"t support WIN NT/95/CE/Mac OS 8.6. Please use it under WIN 98SE/2000/ME/XP/VISTA and MAC 9.0& above.
